Windsong - Newman 32’

Fished every season since purchased new in the 1970’s, the Windsong is spending the winter season in the shop for some upgrades—a new shelter and decks.

Red Raven - Acadia 18’

This 18’ launch, designed by Eric M. Sommers and built by Island Woodworking on Great Cranberry Island in 1994, returned to the same cove in which she was built for some structural upgrades. A rewired panel, new transom, wash rails, and foredeck will extend the life of this boat for many years. Red Raven took a cold splash to relaunch this January.

Tidely Idlely - Newman 32’

A new boarding door installed on the side of this Newman will allow the owner, an avid swimmer, a clean dive into the blue for summer ocean swims.

Pemetic - Newman 36’

An ongoing project for the new owner—Pemetic was repowered in 2015 and returned to the shop in 2020 for a new driveline, steering, and platform. The boat was originally finished in 1974 by Jarvis Newman and spent most of its life between Miami and the northeast. For a smoother ride, Newman & Gray installed a new fiberglass shaft tube, Aquadrive system, and replaced a fiberglass rudder with stainless steel. Additional wiring upgrades and a pressurized freshwater supply were all tucked neatly beneath a new composite panel platform spanning fiberglass I beams.

Osprey - Newman 32’

This Newman 32’ was originally built in 1980, the first finished by Ed Gray in partnership with Jarvis Newman. It changed ownership in 2002 and was repowered then. It returned to the shop in 2020 when the Newman & Gray crew replaced the fuel tanks and installed new fiberglass I beams and composite panels lined with sound deadening foam for a quieter ride — all hidden beneath a teak platform.

Northern Bay 26’

Newman & Gray purchased this foam-cored hull and top in 2020. This boat is available for purchase—the pilothouse and interior layout can be customized to the new owner’s specifications. Current design includes V-berth, head, and sink. Your choice of a 2-300 horsepower outboard motor will allow cruising speeds at 20-25 knots with top speeds in the 30’s. Purchase includes a 90 gal. underdeck fuel tank. The faster planing hull, roomy deck space, and smooth, quiet outboard ride will make this a seaworthy and comfortable boat for island hopping, ocean fishing, and other on-water adventures.

New Construction - Launched July 4th, 2018

38' Powerboat

Our new construction project is a one-off, custom hull designed by Doug Zurn, and, in some ways, is a new venture for our yard. It will maintain the traditional aesthetic of a Downeast lobster boat above the waterline. Below the waterline, however, is a hard-chined, V-bottom with dual IPS drives instead of a traditional keel and single inboard engine. In effect, Zurn’s design will have more speed and maneuverability while keeping the classic good looks of a Maine boat that Newman and Gray built their reputation on.  As in the past, we continue to work with the owner to build a custom layout with high-end joinery and finish work. The lightweight, foam core construction with varnished teak and mahogany trim will allow the boat to push speeds in excess of 40 knots. The Volvo-Penta D6 engines will operate on joystick or wheel control. It is a one-of-a-kind boat: combining the lines of a Downeast boat with modern hull and propulsion systems.
